Nokia Phones Removed from Key Markets by HMD Global – What’s Next?

HMD Global has removed Nokia smartphones from major market websites like the UK and Germany. However, Nokia feature phones remain available, and select markets, such as the Philippines, continue to feature Nokia devices.

HMD Global, the company that has been the steward of the Nokia brand, has taken a bold step in its rebranding journey by removing Nokia phones from the websites of key markets like the UK, Germany, and Austria. This move signals a significant shift in the company’s strategy as it focuses on promoting its own HMD-branded phones.

Nokia Phones Vanish from HMD Global’s UK, Germany, and Austria Websites – Here’s Why

Interestingly, the Nokia brand still holds some presence in select regions, like the Philippines, where Nokia smartphones continue to be featured on HMD’s local website (HMD even introduced the 2024 version of the Nokia 3210 on September 27, which is available for purchase at Shopee). This suggests that the Nokia brand, despite its decline in global visibility, retains value in specific markets.

However, for feature phones, the Nokia name isn’t going anywhere. Nokia-branded feature phones are still prominently displayed and marketed on HMD’s international and regional websites. The distinction between smartphones and feature phones in HMD’s marketing strategy shows how the company is managing the Nokia legacy—phasing it out in some areas while maintaining it in others.

Currently, for Nokia enthusiasts, the international HMD website and platforms like GSMArena remain the go-to places to find the full lineup of Nokia smartphones released under HMD’s management. Moreover, the official Nokia support website is still available, providing users with access to product information and support services.

Though this may be disappointing for longtime Nokia fans, the decision to shift focus entirely to HMD-branded devices seems practical. With HMD now primarily selling their own phones, there’s little reason to promote Nokia smartphones that are no longer part of their primary product lineup. The remaining visibility of the Nokia brand in select markets indicates that while Nokia’s dominance may have faded, its story is not yet over.
