Globe has issued a new fraudster scam warning to its customers about a growing vishing (or voice phising) scheme. In this alarming scam, fraudsters impersonate officials from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), attempting to extort money from unsuspecting victims. Anton Bonifacio, Globe’s Chief Information Security Officer, highlighted the gravity of the situation: “Criminals prey on our natural respect for authority, using it as a weapon to deceive and manipulate,” he said. “This is what we see in this new scam modus, where fraudsters pretend to be NTC officials. We call on our customers to be very vigilant and do not fall victim to these scammers.”

How to Protect Yourself from the New Fraudster Scam

Here are some tips to help you protect yourself from a vishing scam:

  • Be wary of unsolicited calls, especially from numbers you don’t recognize.
  • Do not give out your personal information or financial details over the phone, even if the caller claims to be from a legitimate organization.
  • If you are unsure about the legitimacy of a call, hang up the phone and call the organization directly using a phone number you know is correct.
  • Report suspicious calls to the authorities.

Globe is working tirelessly with the NTC and law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend these fraudsters. The company is committed to protecting its customers and regularly blocks phone numbers linked to scams, including vishing attempts.
